We have been taught for years that we need to eat a well balanced breakfast. As college students, yes it is easy to pick up frozen breakfasts or even go through a local drive thru to get something to ear. However, this is not always the best option. Some of these foods are high in fat and sodium and when you trying to eat a well balanced diet it can mess up your numbers.
Instead look at doing some cooking at home. Eggs are a healthy options and are easy to make. One egg has only 75 calories and has 7 grams of high-quality protein, 5 grams of fat, and 1.6 grams of saturated fat, along with iron, vitamins, and minerals. There are basic easy ways to cook eggs that take little time and not much work. For this lesson we discuss 5 ways to cook eggs.
Fried
- To make this heat a small amount of butter in a nonstick skillet over medium-high head until hot. Break the eggs into the pan, one at a time. Immediately reduce the head to low. Cover the pan and cook slowly until the whites are completely set and yolks begin to thicken, which is about 5-6 minutes. This is what is called sunny side up.
- If you flip the eggs over and cook for about another minute it is what is called over-easy.

- Heat 2-3 inches of water in a large saucepan or deep skillet and bring to a boil. You will want to adjust the heat a little to keep the water on a simmer.
- Break the eggs one at a time in a little cup or saucer. From there when water is at a boil you will gently add them into the boiling water.
- Cook the eggs until the whites are completely set and the yolks start to thicken, about 3-5 minutes.
- Once the eggs are done take them out of the boiling water with a slotted spoon and place them a paper towel to help soak up any extra liquid.
- They can then be moved to the plate to enjoy.
